This morning was a very special day in our office. The phone was, and still is ringing off the hook. It is Lucky’s birthday. We wish to thank everybody that phoned in, to wish him a happy day. So far, he got, cake, chocolates, lots of flowers and fruit. He came to the office, still in his pyjamas, we just had a ball. This was the noisiest office in the building. Radio stations were talking about it all morning. He says he has had enough cake now already, he is now waiting for those cars, the helicopters, and some dollars, well he got 2 dollars from his sons. That is a start. From our noisy office here in sunny Johannesburg, we thank you all for making it such a special day for Lucky and all of us. We all say HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCKY DUBE. Some of the letters that came in, say...

May God bless you with more and more years, so you can continue to bless us with your music...Nigeria

Our lives as reggae lovers are in complete without your music, happy birthday, have many more...Nicaragua

Come spend your birthday with me and my friends we are hot girls from Springs...South Africa

You should organise a live concert on the net, to celebrate with all your fans around the world, happy birth day...Australia

We got tons of emails all wishing Dube good, there were a few poems that came in, we were surprised how people use Lucky;s music to rhyme and create some wonderful things ,oh!!! Man!!!! I don’t have words to describe it.

Thank you Thank you Thank you

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCKY DUBE………..YEAH !!!!

Our recent five day tour to the States was outstanding. From the minute we landed in New York, it was clear to all of us that, this was going to be great fun. The New York show was moved to a different venue than advertised, for reasons we don’t know yet. It was nice to see some people that we have known over 10 years, coming to see us after such a long time. This was one of those shows you wished could just go on forever. It was sad though, cause some people had to be turned away cause they could not fit in any more people. This is where Lucky performed the very first time in the USA. It brought back a lot of good and bad memories.

The cameras where going on and on and on everywhere, you would think that there was a politician in the house, but it was our man Lucky Dube, doing his thing. The songs from the new album Respect were also very well received .After the show, Lucky had the chance to meet and greet some of his fans, wow!!! More pictures got taken and more talks, well into the night. All our shows went okay except for the one in Houston that had to be cancelled due to…. Rain. It was sad, but there was not much we could do. The following day we were to leave for Dallas, We got checked in all looking normal and then as they started pushing back ,the captain said ….’’Ladies and Gentlemen we have a problem’’ We all started praying ,even the non believers, then he told us that we wont be able to take off because there is a big storm in Dallas, we wont be able to land there so the flight is delayed for some time. Oh man you should have seen the relief on people’s faces. We did not mind staying there for a few more hours, than being caught in some storm. The storm got worse and the flight was cancelled, so we stayed another night in Houston. This was okay; we did not have a show that night we loved every minute over there, we are working on booking some more dates before the end of the year.

CITIZEN OF DALLAS TEXAS
We were very nicely surprised upon our arrival in Dallas, Texas. The promoter told us, they have a special gift for Lucky, from the Mayor of Dallas .Normally we were going to run, but not this time. Just before the show, they called Lucky to the stage and gave him an envelope, a big one. He opened it,it was a huge certificate, and the MC for that show, read it out to the people.

It read………..’’BE IT KNOWN THAT LUCKY DUBE,HAS, ON THIS DAY, BEEN MADE AN HONORARY CITIZEN OF DALLAS TEXAS.AND UNDER THIS CHARTER, SHALL HOLD AND ENJOY A PLACE OF HIGH ESTEEM IN THE MINDS AND THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE OF THIS CITY’’. Signed May 27.The crowed went wild and so did Lucky and the band. It was a very enjoyable night indeed. We thank you so much for all you have done. Right now, the certificate that Lucky was given, is proudly displayed in his music room, alongside, some, that he got from different parts of the world, including NAMIBIA, CHICAGO, LIBERIA, and many others. I would say he is a citizen of the world. Yeah!!!

IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?
We have just received news from one of our fans in Brazil. We were there a month or so ago. He says that; during our performance there, at the place called ’’ WET AND WILD’’, where a strong 20 / 25000 people came out to see Lucky, a woman was pushed against the barricades in the front of the stage, and her breasts exploded. Upon examining this, they found that she had breast implants. The pressure from the dancing crowed behind her was too much for the implants that’s why the exploded. We don’t know if this is true or just a gag. Is it possible that such a thing can happen? Is there a doctor in the house? Please help.

GHANA
We are currently in negotiations with a promoter from Ghana, who wants to put up a show on the 1st of July. We have heard that an article in an Australian News outlet, claim that the show is now confirmed and Lucky is going to do 3 hours non stop on stage. We have no idea what they are talking about, as soon as the contract is signed, we will HAVE it on our site ,as always. As for the 3 hrs on stage, maybe he was just joking.

News Our trip to Jamaica was one of the most memorable ones. Lucky and the band were so excited to learn about the invitation; they could not wait for the date to arrive. As you would remember, the last time Lucky was there, was way back in 1991.When we arrived ,we were met by South Africa’s high commission in Jamaica, it was nice to hear people speaking Zulu ,so from home.
We had an opportunity to perform with a Jamaican orchestra, during the opening ceremony of Cricket world cup, but unfortunately it did not happen .Lucky felt that the orchestra did not have enough time to rehearse with his band, to get the song sounding right, we just hope that the offer is still there next time, it would have been wonderful. When we got on stage, on the day of the show, it was magic. Lucky was in top form, the band was ‘’cooking’ usually government VIP’s don’t get their ‘’boogy”on, but this day, it was different. I have never seen VIP’s in suits and ties moving like that before, sometimes it looked like they were all possessed by some spirit. The same thing that possessed the VIP’s was also doing the same to Lucky and the band. When he sang Prisoner, a lady from the crowed in the from shouted….PETER TOSH IS ALIVE, IN AFRICA.

This to Lucky was a great Horner, because even though it’s years ago, Peter is still a great inspiration to him. The crowed went wild. it was a different kind of wild when he played the song Ding ding licky licky bong. When the Kwasa kwasa part came in, it was just amazing, words can not describe the vibe in that venue. Our Jamaican fans learned to say a few Zulu words during this song…..Good. They loved us. We loved them back.

After the show Lucky signed autographs for…. like a good hour and a half. In that hour and a half we heard a lot of good and bad stories about Jamaica and about Africa. one of the ones I liked most…….
A guy came to see Lucky, and then he told us that he just does not believe that the people in South Africa can be so ignorant. We asked what he meant ….he says the guy that we know as Nelson Mandela is actually a clone; he says the Real Madiba died in prison a long time ago …so they made a clone. We thought maybe he was going to say …GOT YA!! But NO, He told us more about what is going on in Africa that he does not like.
Some of the guys in our crew were so thrilled to hear Patois, this was the first time they visited Jamaica they always thought this is just how all reggae singers SHOULD talk. We visited a few historic sites, during our stay there; most important was the Bob Marley museum. This is a must see for everyone visiting Jamaica. You enter that place; you are in a different place, spiritually… great inspiration. It was also a great pleasure to meet Sean Paul, Rita Marley Shaggy Gregory Isaacs, and Buju Banton Wow! It was a sad moment for us to leave Jamaica; we were having such a good time, it was purely mixing business with pleasure. We are looking forward to our next performance there…anytime.

We spent a month and a half in the Caribbean; we came back to South Africa only to leave in less than 24 hours to start our European tour…..

Our European / UK tour was also very exciting .Since, the album Respect, only came out there on the 2nd of March, and it was a very nice surprise for some of those people that had not heard about the album yet. I was very surprised though, because some people even knew the words to the songs. The tour’s favourite was “Shut Up”. All the shows we were sold out, days in advance .We met some folks that have driven 700 km to see Lucky live…..Wow!! That’s I true love …thank you. We got a wake up call the one time we went France….we might fool ourselves into thinking that the world have learned to accept all its different peoples, but we are wrong. In some areas BLACK is still the wrong colour. It even gets worse when you are a reggae musician.

Our tour bus was stopped by French police, and the demanded to search every body in the bus. When they did not find what they thought they’ll find they got angry. One of them even broke Lucky’s brief case, to see what was inside. He started asking Lucky why he keeps a Dictaphone in his brief case, and he started going through Lucky’s documents, saying things in French that did seem a little ugly. Good thing the people that came to the show were not like that. We still have a long way to go, we might have changed the books, but we still have to change the minds of the people. Our band members just looked at this as part of the JOB. WOW!!!

Maybe they (police) should listen to the song RESPECT.

We are leaving for the USA next week on a 10 day trip. Please check TOUR DATES for details.

The Channel O music awards took place as planned, we were not there but our friends from the record company were there to represent Lucky. Later that night they phoned Lucky to tell him that he has won the award for BEST VIDEO. It was late at night, but he called all of us, we got up and we had a little braai, to celebrate. We would like to thank all of you who voted for Lucky to get this award; all six million of you. It is now very proudly displayed in his award room. Thank you!! Thank you !!

We left South Africa to do 3 shows in Nigeria, but we ended up doing only one. They had a lot of problems there but we hope that in the future, these would be solved. We performed in LAGOS. This was a show that was organised to celebrate Fela Kuti’s life they called it Felabration. We were happy to be part of this great event. Femi Kuti, joined Lucky on stage during the song Different Coulours, with his Saxophone, the crowd went wild, a few other Nigerian musicians got the chance to perform a song or two with Lucky, and it was a great felabration.

Upon our return from Nigeria, our office told us that the organisers for the shows in Madagascar have finally managed to make proper arrangements for us to leave, and do these long awaited shows in Madagascar. We could not believe our eyes when we landed at the Antananarivo airport, WOW!!! We knew the y loved Lucky, we just had no idea it was this much. They have walked for hundreds of miles, just to come see him at the airport, to make sure that he has arrived indeed. Driving from the airport we were followed by thousands of people, in buses, trucks and bikes. Hotel security had to work a little harder that day to keep things normal at the Hotel. Lucky was at the lobby for hours, signing autographs and taking pictures with his fans. When the shows happened, it was a wonderful experience for us.

Even though they do not speak much English, it was amazing to hear them singing along with Lucky. They taught us to say I LOVE YOU in their language, which we got to sing throughout the tour. They speak French and a local language that sounded very musical to the ear. Some of the band members learned to talk this language within days. There were a lot of little babies that were brought to Lucky to take pictures with. He eventually looked like a President just before an election. We had a blast. The people were kind and loving; it is a very peaceful place. We would love to go back there in the future. This week Lucky goes to Aruba.

We got word from GALLO the South African record company, that Warner Brothers will release RESPECT on the 11th of December 2006.This is UNFORTUNATELY excluding the USA Where the release will be in January 2007.wow!! Finally the world gets RESPECT.
